Up Close and Personal... 'In Parting Mists...'
by Merekat
In Parting Mists. This was created as a bit of an old-fasioned modern horror take for Ilex Press' next digital artists' book. I am honored to have been featured as one of the chapter headers in the book and excitedly await its publication later this year. This piece was a more 'TwilightZone' take rather than outright scare and gore tactics. Basically the environment's dead, eerieness of winter and a lake of fog tend to kill slowly just about anything traversing through it's endless expanse. Our heroine has been trying to get out of the area for quite some time, and it's certainly taken its toll on her physically and mentally. So much to the point, she's not even realizing she's not alone in the fog layer...

I had a ton of fun painting the background and am really starting to love landscapes again. The background in fact was relatively quick and easy... it was the girl that gave me fits! ;} Hard to express 'being drowned in air' deadness without looking too zombie sans maggots. Either way, it was a fun piece to do, though I think I could've upped the scariness a hair... I just tried to take on the challenge of how creepy and hopeless could I paint a scene in daylight? and went from there. I hope you enjoy it!
