Above are the very first two concept designs I did over at ArenaNet for the Guild Wars franchise. This particular page is dedicated to Factions, the second chapter and release, a very ambitious expansion for the original game. These in particular were for the Kurzicks, a rather gothic-type people who lived in a petrified forest and dress according to couture, presenting themselves impeccably. They were incredible amounts of fun to design, and even more fun to model and texture. I will be updating more and more of the concepts weekly, including screen grabs of them in the actual game.

The Kurzick Noble Male and Guard Captain... I had a lot of fun with these two. For the captain and the guards (to be shown next weekend), I had to design Captains, Leutenants (so to speak) and regular Soldiers. So I decided to indeed make them into an army., complete with matching uniforms and rank. They had to be recognizeable as a unit, of course. On the Captain, I had most of my fun texturing that breastplate. I adore aged metals and making them look worn and well kept.

For the Nobleman, his job was in being austere, authoritative and well... noble. The best part about the noble class is I could really have fun creating material combinations, like aged lace with velvet piping, cuffs and a mottled crushed wool with an ingrained dappled squiggle pattern. You really need to see that close up. :} I'll try to get a screen grab.  I'll post closeups and screens in the forum.

The Kurzick Guard Female and Guard Male... These guards were designed to be higher in station than the normal guards walking around the Kurzick encampments. Remembering the guard Captain I had already designed, I decided that these were to be part of the structure of command and be more Leutenants. This would mean they would have some chest and shoulder armor, but not to the extent of the Captain's full chest, high shoulders and skirt flaps.

Of course, being part of a cohesive, uniformed army, they posessed the same boots, gauntlets and general tunic conventions of the other commands. Also, being part of the Kurzick people, this means they're also following the social designs of rather haute couture hair styles, pale skin and heavy makeup designs.

Below are the ladies I modeled and textured from my concepts above. These are actual screen grabs of in-game models. I think I got them pretty darn close to the concepts, no? :} Pity these aren't showing the speculars on the models well. They glitter so nicely.

And the guys... Again, these are the actual textured models I created based off my concepts. I also concepted most of the Kurzicks, including children, priests, merchants, scholars, craftsmen and others. Those pictured on this site are just my favorites. ;}

In addition, I also created some player armors for the Factions campaign. These are the Exotic armors for the ritualists. I also built and concepted the higher end version of this armor, the 15k Exotic.

Below this you'll see the Exotic Female Assassin armors and the 15k. Those were particularly fun, as I made them to look transluscent as if made of amber, the material associated with the armor in game. The first tier Exotic is merely veined in amber, like a boulder opal, and this is the photoshop concept. The high end is pure amber and is a screenshot of the model I created and textured.
