Broken.Miho
I thought you might like to see the original model I built to help me suss out the perspective for the broken.miho painting. I've always enjoyed creating schnazzy environments in modeling for the very fact that it's so flexible. It doesn't replace the hand-painting and I do not consider it a shortcut for any artistic texturing or lighting: I still do all of that myself. I do not use the program for any rendering whatsoever, only for the vague outline of perspective from which I take a screengrab and completely paint out.
During and after the model is created, it is easy to rotate the perspective and change the camera angles frequently to get just the right look. It is through modeling that I've discovered layouts and compositions it would have been much more time-consuming and frustrating to explore by more conventional means. If, for example, you needed the layout to be just a bit more from a point of view to the right, you needn't spend hours redoing the scene by starting over in pencil. And by rotating the model, surprise ideas are revealed: points of view that might not have been so obvious from the original concept. This doesn't replace the thought process or the hand-drawing thumbnails and sketches of the concept, it's just one more tool in the later stages (once you know what you want) that can make your final concept that much more dynamic.
